Frequently Asked Questions

Muddy Princess is an outdoor 5km obstacle mud run for WOMEN ONLY with an emphasis on having a “girls’ dirty day out” in the mud. We don’t focus on fastest times or competitions, we focus on fun! We have between 18-19 obstacles with a variety of challenges so be prepared to run/walk/ crawl/climb/ slide/ balance and laugh your way to the finish line.
We love women! And this run is all about celebrating women in all their glorious forms. We want to bring you an experience where you feel like a Princess even while crawling through the mud. This is a girl power, best friend bonding, “wow, I never thought I’d be able to do that” memory making day out for ladies ONLY.
To bring you the most fun day out in the mud, we have designed a variety of obstacles to keep you Princesses challenged and entertained. You can expect to
  • Wade, crawl or paddle through water and mud
  • Climb ropes, nets and tyre towers
  • Traverse across balance obstacles
  • Slide, glide, shimmy and roll down poles, small hills and embankments
  • Move over, through or under poles, climbing frames and barrels
No!

We encourage all of our Princesses to learn more about themselves, their boundaries and possibly their limitations at our events. If you feel that an obstacle is a little too much for you, you are welcome to walk through and continue your run.
No!

We don’t focus on time tracking or competition. Once you are on the course, you are free to complete the run as fast or as slowly as you like. There is no pressure to run, you can walk the entire course at your leisure.
Yes!

While we are strictly a “for-profit” business, we care greatly about outreach causes, especially those that focus on women’s health. This is why we have partnered with the Pink Drive which promotes regular mammogram checks to encourage early detection and prevention of breast cancer.

Yes! And no.

As this is a race strictly for women, we only allow GIRL Princesses to participate as well. Little Princesses are welcome to join in the fun AND we have a special price ticket for them!

Due to the nature of the event, we do have some restrictions as well.

Minimum age for entry is 6 years old.

13 years and younger - qualify for child ticket price. Can run at their parents discretion. They require a fully paid and registered adult (over the age of 18) to accompany them and an additional indemnity must be signed at registration on the day.

14+ years - Full price ticket. Do not require an accompanying adult but an indemnity form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian at registration on the day.

Please note – no indemnity, no run, no exceptions.

As this is an outdoor event, we do suggest that you wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. We also really encourage our Princesses to make a statement by dressing up and showing off their inner Princess. Think tutus, tiaras, unicorns, fairies, bright colours, glitter and let your imagination go wild.
We suggest that all Princesses plan to arrive 1 hour ahead of your scheduled batch time. Please go straight to the Registration tents to get your coloured wristband and then feel free to mingle in our Village while waiting for your heat to be called.
The race can take anything from an hour to three hours to complete, it totally depends on you and how fast or slowly you want to run/walk/crawl/skip/hop or shimmy the course. The average time is two hours of mud filled fun!
We average between 150 – 250 Princesses in each batch, depending on the size of the event.
Yes!

However, we cannot guarantee you a spot in a specific batch time. We always recommend that you book in advance but, in the unlikely event that we aren’t sold out, there may be a few open spots available.
At Muddy Princess, we don’t let a little (or a giant pool full of) mud stop us so we certainly aren’t going to let a little rain get in our way either. Unless we have specifically contacted you to say otherwise, please assume that race is on!
Your smile, some ID, your outfit and some cash.

To make your day as hassle free as possible, we encourage our Princesses to bring the following items as well

  • a change of clothes,
  • a towel to dry yourself off,
  • sunscreen,
  • black bags for your dirty clothes and shoes (trust us, the mud gets everywhere!)
We have a Bag-drop (R30) at the village where you can leave your stuff until you have completed the course. We always advise our Princesses to bring bags that can be properly zipped shut and to leave valuables at home.
Please contact info@muddyprincess.co.za for more details.

And it’s free! We choose our venues very carefully to ensure that there is enough space to accommodate all our Princesses and their families, spectators and supporters.
Yes!

We always encourage our Princesses to travel with their entourage so husbands, kids, grannies and cheering squads are always welcome. We have a Village where they can cheer you at the Start and celebrate you at the Finish Line. They can explore the food and drinks stalls, or sit and relax while they wait for you to have your fun in the mud.

We try our very best to have a Kids Entertainment Zone at the Village but cannot guarantee this as we are working with different venues for each event. Please check the Participants Information (released a few days before the run date) for your specific event to see exactly what facilities will be available.

Please note – We do not have a designated spectator zone along the course. While it may be fun to have your hubby watch you wade through the mud or climb the tyre tower, we ask that you respect the privacy of all our Princesses and that all spectators remain in the Village and not venture onto the course.

Due to the set up of the different venues, we cannot guarantee that the course will remain private and we do not police spectators along the route.

Picnic blankets and camping chairs are permitted but no gazebos, umbrellas or portable braais are allowed.

We have partnered with Mitchum to bring you an enhanced shower experience!
